Secop is among the top 5 companies nominated in the PPWR Pioneer category. The PPWR Pioneer category recognizes companies that implemented the PPWR requirements particularly early on and have already largely aligned their packaging portfolio with the new guidelines.
We are looking forward to the awards ceremony on October 15, 2026, at the Tanso Sustainability Summit in Munich and are eager to see who will take home the award.
For PPWR compliance, Secop implemented dedicated software for the preparation of the required compliance documentation. Thanks to the successful implementation and transition within a very short timeframe, Secop was nominated for its rapid adoption of the system.
Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on Packaging and Packaging Waste (PPWR) entered into force on 11 February 2025 and will apply from 12 August 2026. It introduces new requirements that go beyond the previous EU Packaging Directive and are directly binding for economic operators.
From August 2026, food-contact packaging exceeding specified PFAS limits may no longer be placed on the market. New legal definitions will also become applicable across EU Member States.
Additional requirements will be phased in over time. Packaging will have to be recyclable, and plastic packaging must contain a minimum share of recycled content. From 2030, mandatory reuse targets will apply in sectors such as beverage packaging. The Regulation also requires Member States to reduce packaging waste per capita by 5% by 2030 and 15% by 2040 compared with 2018 levels.
