IndelB Slim70 Fridge (BD Nano Compressor)

Case Story

This case story aims to demonstrate how the Secop BD Nano compressor addresses a big key challenges for RV users during off-grid camping: high energy consumption from compressor fridges. High energy consumption often forces travellers to seek external power sources or run the campervan engine.

All the tests have been conducted by an independent third party: VanlifeMag.de.

Application Description

The tested refrigerator is the Slim70 from IndelB’s new OFF line. It has a 70-liter capacity, an LED display with Power Saving and Silent Night modes, a reversible door with a customizable panel, and a locking handle for ventilation when off. Its easy-fix system allows for quicker and simpler installation compared to traditional methods.
One of the main challenges with RV compressors is minimizing battery consumption; however, newer, highly efficient DC compressors can drastically reduce power draw.

Advantages of Secop's BD Nano Compressor

  • Compact design: Maximizes fridge capacity
  • Innovative components and engineering: Deliver low power consumption
  • Sustainability: Uses a natural refrigerant (isobutane R600a) with low Global Warming Potential (GWP)
  • Advanced motor: Enables rapid cooling
  • Consistent performance: Operates reliably in all ambient temperatures, including tropical conditions

Benefits of the Implemented Solution

The BD Nano is the smallest compressor on the market, at only 93 mm high and weighing 1.5 kg. Despite its compact size, it provides powerful cooling for fridges up to 150 liters. Key innovations include compact mufflers that reduce size, weight, and noise, a "mobile stability" concept for durability, and a miniaturized motor with an extended speed range. Its advanced electronic controller complies with strict automotive electromagnetic interference standards. The compressor offers a cooling capacity of up to 68 W and an efficiency of 1.54 W/W (ASHRAE LBP).

Voice of Customer

The IndelB Group is a worldwide leader in mobile refrigeration for the Automotive, Leisure time, and Hospitality sectors.  Fabrizio Ruscelli, Head of Test Dept in IndelB:

Thanks to the BD Nano compressor, our Slim series refrigerators now deliver unprecedented cooling performance and energy efficiency, all while operating with extreme quietness. It’s a game-changer for us, setting new standards in refrigeration technology!

Test Results

  • Max. consumption (peak): 2.56 A (not exceeded even at startup)
  • Average consumption in 24 h: 0.29 kWh
  • Cool down time to reach target temperature (6°C in fridge): < 2 hours
  • 24 h energy consumption with fridge closed (Level 3 setting):
    38.4 Ah (fridge temperature 6/8 °C, freezer -18/20 °C)

Test Conditions

  • Ambient Temperature: 31–32 °C
  • Fridge Setting: Level 3
  • Measurement Tools: Bluetooth sensors inside the fridge
  • Test Duration: 2 weeks
  • Usage: 7 openings per day (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and four additional openings)
  • Contents: Filled with cheese, sausage, yogurt, bread, beer, and water (1.5 L bottles) to simulate realistic use
