How Secop BD-P compressors, integrated in Coldtainer refrigerated units, revolutionized pharmaceutical distribution in the U.S.
How Secop BD-P compressors, integrated in Coldtainer refrigerated units, revolutionized pharmaceutical distribution in the U.S.
Morris & Dickson is one of the leading pharmaceutical distributors in the United States, with over 175 years of experience and a strong presence across more than 20 states. Every day, they ensure the safe and timely delivery of temperature-sensitive medications to hospitals, pharmacies, and clinics.
Until a few years ago, the company relied on traditional passive containers with ice packs to maintain cold chain requirements during transport. However, this method posed several challenges:
In an increasingly regulated industry where traceability and safety are paramount, Morris & Dickson needed a complete logistical overhaul.
After over a year of testing various temperature-controlled transport solutions, Morris & Dickson chose the Coldtainer AuO (+2 °C/+8 °C) line from Euroengel: active, autonomous, 12 V refrigerated containers fully compliant with pharmaceutical standards. At the heart of these containers are Secop BD-P Series compressors, chosen for their energy efficiency, reliability, and precise temperature control. Specifically, the BD50F model, equipped with variable speed technology, ensures exceptional performance – even in extreme environmental conditions.
The adoption of Coldtainer brought transformative benefits:
Coldtainer units were deployed for last-mile deliveries using vans equipped with F0140 and F0330 models, both powered by Secop BD50F compressors. For hub-to-branch distribution, F0720 models with dual-circuit cooling systems and two BD50F compressors were implemented. At the main distribution center in Shreveport, Louisiana, F0720 units are pre-cooled or pre-heated and charged via external power before departure. Each unit includes a 12 V, 165 Ah gel battery, offering over 12 hours of autonomous operation.
Coldtainer turned a dream into reality, said Alan Bass, Special Projects Director at Morris & Dickson. We’ve increased efficiency and improved the quality of our deliveries – without relying on outdated passive methods.
Staff were especially pleased to move away from dry ice, eliminating safety risks associated with handling materials at -80 °C. Internal condensation is minimal, and temperature stability during transport has proven outstanding.
By integrating Coldtainer technology from Euroengel with Secop compressors, Morris & Dickson successfully:
To date, the company has deployed over 200 Coldtainer units and is planning further nationwide expansion.
The partnership with Secop was key to achieving these results. Their BD50F compressors offer:
Thanks to the reliability of Secop compressors, Coldtainer can offer scalable, compliant, and high-performance solutions for temperature-controlled pharmaceutical logistics.
Coldtainer is a registered trademark of Euroengel, an Italian SME that has been designing and manufacturing 12 V active isothermal containers since 1993. Over the years, Euroengel has specialized in developing mobile solutions for temperature-controlled transport, establishing itself as a global benchmark in the sector.
Euroengel's unique expertise in designing isothermal containers using rotational molding technology, crafting specialized production equipment, and engineering 12 V refrigeration units suitable for continuous use in vehicles, even on the roughest roads, ensures the creation of products that are unparalleled in terms of performance, quality, and durability.
The Morris & Dickson case demonstrates how innovative technology – powered by trusted Secop components – can reshape the future of pharmaceutical logistics. This success story offers a replicable, scalable model across Europe and beyond, combining sustainability, safety, and efficiency.
